Wakasa lacquerware developed from Kikujin-nuri which had elaborated on the design of the sea bed imitating Chinese lacquer art.
This is high-grade lacquerware, characterized by a method of drawing figures using natural materials such as crushed eggshells, seashells, or pine needles, applying multiple layers of a color varnish and then more layers of varnish to create a finish on top of gold and silver leaves.
Wakasa lacquerware is both very durable and graceful at the same time.
