Shimogamo Shinto Shrine

The formal name is “Kamo-mioya-jinja”. Also known as “Shimogamo-san” or “Shimogamo-jinja” in an affectionate manner . City of Kyoto has been developed centered along the River Kamo, and the "Jinja" (Shinto Shrine) is enshrined downstream of the river. The main shrines, both east and west, are designated as national treasures. In 1910, Keio University students introduced rugby football to the prewar Daisan-High-School (the precursor of Kyoto University) in this place, to get the ball rolling also is the Kansai area, and hence the birthplace of Kansai rugby raising within the precincts a memorial stela, read “The point of Kickoff”.
