Osaka Shamisen
The shamisen was introduced to Sakai from Ryukyu (Okinawa) in 1562.
In those days, snake skin was used to cover the body of the shamisen, then later craftspeople started using dog or cat skin.
Other improvements and adaptations have been made due to the shamisen's deep relationship with such traditional accomplishments as Gidayu (dramatic narratives) and Jiuta (the songs of the Kyoto and Osaka regions).
