Osaka Butsudan

It is believed that Osaka became a center for making Buddhist altars and their fittings when Prince Shotoku invited artisans from Korea to build the Shitennoji temple.
Takamakie (raised lacquer work) which decorates the front of the upper part of the altar's interior, pillars covered with pressed gold leaf, and graceful colors decorating the surface of the carvings are all characteristic of Osaka Butsudan.
