RUGBY WORLD CUP™ PROUD HOST

Omi-Jofu

The making of hemp cloth flourished thanks to the favorable environment and the activities of Omi merchants since the Kamakura period (1185-1333).
During the Edo period (1600-1868) this craft further flourished under the patronage of the Hikone clan.
The process begins by dyeing the superfine spun yarn using a method known as Kasuri-zome, (resisted yarn dyeing), and then weaving the piece.
Finally, a special crepe treatment is applied.
