Mikuni Dansu
The prosperity of Kitamae-bune, a carrier ship which sailed the Sea of Japan from the middle of the Edo period to the end of the Meiji period (1868-1912), made Mikuni the largest sea port along the Sea of Japan coastline and therefore attracted many craftspeople.
This is why the making of Funa-dansu, a chest of drawers specially designed for ships, started here.
This has made Mikuni famous as one of the three main cradles of Tansu in Japan.
