In Kyoto, there is a great variety of pottery such as Kiyomizu-yaki, Awata-yaki, Omuro-yaki, Raku-yaki and Kenzan-yaki, Kyo-yaki is a general term for all these different styles of pottery in Kyoto.
Their origin is said to be around the beginning of the Heian period and they flourished together with the prospering of the Heian capital.
