Kyoto had been the center of Japanese culture for about 1,000 years, since Heiankyo became the capital (794).
With a cultural urge which is peculiar to Kyoto and the development of Japanese gardens due to the popularity of the tea ceremony from the Momoyama period on, many excellent and unique stone crafts have been produced here.
The art has been handed down until today.
