RUGBY WORLD CUP™ PROUD HOST

Jibari Chochin (Lanterns)

It used to be the custom of Inabe-gun, Mie Prefecture, to hang colorful lanterns from the eaves of houses on the day of the local Shinto festival.
These sturdy jibari chochin were made by hand and featured scenes from the famous 11th century "Tale of Genji" and samurai in combat.
Lanterns are still made in the traditional way for shrines, temples, festivals and many other purposes.
