Iga-yaki Pottery

Iga-yaki is said to have originated in the latter half of the 7th or in the early 8th century.
At first, roof tiles and seed pots used in farming were the main products.
From the end of the Muromachi period to the beginning of the Momoyama period, liga-yaki became famous for making tea utensils and it still retains this tradition.
Various glazes such as a deep-red glaze, an ash glaze and a clear, glassy blue glaze are characteristic of Iga-yaki pottery.
