Himeji Shiro-Nameshugawa work
This leather work was being used for harnessry and armors from the end of the Warring States period (1467?1568) to the Azuchi-Momoyama period (1568?1600).
The name was already known then throughout Japan as the white-tanned leather of Harima.
It was during the Edo period that craftspeople started making delicate works such as cigarette cases.
The main products today are letterboxes, leather cases, byobu (a folding screen), or the like.
