Goshu-Doro (Lantern)
It is said that stone work in Hira originated with a clan who came over to Japan from Korea about 1,000 years ago.
At the foot of Mt.
Hira there lies a large quantity of granite which does not absorb water easily, so in Minami-Komatsu, stone work has been carried out extensively from old times.
Goshu lanterns made of granite and andesite, which are both fine and resistant to weathering, are especially famous.
