Asagutsu (Priest’s Footwear)
In the lse area, the production of Asagutsu, the footwear of Shinto priests, began during the Edo period (1600-1868) and the whole process from making models to the finishing touches had been pursued by the Kubota family.
Presently, the sole successor, who studied the technique with the Kubota family, continues to make Asagutsu and thus retains the tradition.
